Let the handover requirements set the scope

A lease, property manager's checklist or sale agreement may name tasks that a standard cleaning package doesn't include. Send the written requirements to the cleaner before accepting an estimate. A cleaning service cannot guarantee your deposit return or resolve unrelated damage deductions.

Before booking

Confirm the home will be empty and decide who removes rubbish and remaining belongings. Share the required cleaning checklist and priority areas. Confirm oven, refrigerator, cupboards and drawers are included if needed. Ask separately about carpet cleaning, windows and exterior work. Arrange access, keys, parking and any building service hours. Keep water, electricity and safe access available for the visit.

Before the handover

Walk through the agreed scope and raise missed tasks promptly. Photograph the condition for your own records, following your agreement's requirements. Keep the cleaning receipt and any agreed follow-up details.

If you are moving in instead

Confirm when you will actually have access, whether trades are still working and whether the home is empty. Cleaning before a dusty repair is finished may mean paying for work twice. Ask who will move appliances if cleaning behind them is needed; don't assume a house cleaner can safely do that.

Give yourself a handover window

If possible, leave enough time between the clean and the handover to inspect the work. Confirm the cleaner's process for missed tasks and the timeframe for reporting them before the appointment.
